Porsche Boxster S | £18,995
Mileage: 58,616Model History
The Boxster (986) was introduced in 1996 and was Porsches first production roadster since the 550 spider back in 1953.
The visual design of the car was inspired by the 356 Spyder, Speedster and 550 Spyder. Borrowing heavily from its big brother the 996 the Boxster shared many body panels and components reducing its build cost. After several years of troubled sales figures the Boxster/911 component sharing helped turnaround Porsche fortunes leaving it in a stronger financial position against any potential takeover bid from other car manufacturers.
The second generation Boxster (987) was available from 2005 onwards and despite looking almost identical allbeit from the new headlights and larger side vents, Porsche claim the 987 Boxster shares only 20% of its components with its predecessor the 986. Larger wheel arches allow for optional 19 inch wheels. The entry level engine being a 2.7L 260bhp flat 6 with the Boxster S getting a 3.2L 280bhp engine.
Equipment
ABS, Power Steering, Electric mirror, Electric windows, Electric roof, Air conditioning with climate control, Rear parking sensors, Adjustable rear spoiler, Stability control, Driver, passenger and side airbags, CD player and Cruise control. Optional 19 inch wheels, Xenon lights and Bose sound system.
Exterior
Finished in metallic silver the body work on this Boxster is in excellent condition. The larger optional 19 inch wheels fill the bigger wheel arches on the 987 chassis nicely giving the latest Boxster an aggressive and sporty stance while still retaining the classic roadster body lines.
Interior
The leather shows no signs of wear and tear. The dashboard is well laid out with all the controls at your figure tips, it is well built and oozes prestige and quality as you would expect from a Porsche. The car has an optional Bose stereo fitted and the electric roof opens and closes quickly with minimal effort even at speeds of up to 30mph.
Engine & Transmission
The engine feels strong and the gear change precise. The 3.2 flat six engine produces a strong consistent pull from low revs, the exhaust note is sociable low down but retains that performance rasp until a crisp howl at high revs.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
The 19 inch optional alloy wheels are all unmarked wrapped in excellent tyres that have only just recently been fitted. The Brembo Porsche calipers and drilled discs are all in full working order bring the sporty roadster to a quick stop.
