Model History

The E24 6 series was produced from 1976-1989 and was the replacement for the CS and CSL E9 coupes. Like the E9 coupes the early bodies of the 6 were manufactured by Karmann until production was moved in house by BMW. It was the proven E12 5 series that provided the chassis and much of the mechanicals for the E24. Dubbed the 'Bavarian Ferrari' the 6 series was a high end two door luxury sports coupe.

The original 630CS was carbureted and had a 4 speed gearbox. 1979 saw the end of the non-injection fuel systems and the introduction of computer fuel injection. The 635CSI was not produced till 1978, a couple of years after the introduction of the E24 chassis, the 3.5 engine was then improved on again in 1982 when the model received an improved interior and slight exterior modifications.

Equipment

ABS, Power assisted Steering, Electric operated windows, Electric operated Mirrors, Heated Rear Windscreen, Boot Spoiler, Trip Computer, Electric Memory Seats, Electric Sunroof, Central locking.

Exterior

The paintwork on this big 6 is immaculate, there are no dents, scratches, bumps or stone chips. It has a deep gloss shine that looks fantastic. The paintwork carried out in the past has been done to a high standard with mouldings and coach lines removed before paint then replaced or renewed after. Thre are no signs of any corrosion.

Interior

The interior echos the condition of the exterior and is clean with no rips, tears or wear on the seats, the leather is clean and supple. We had a problem with the heater blowing hot all the time but with a replacement heater valve now fitted this all works as it should now. All the electrics seem to work well including mirrors, windows and seats. Unfortunately the flip radio that came with the car had decided enough was enough and stuck half way round so this got replaced with a brand new CD/radio unit.

Engine & Transmission

Regular servicing has kept the engine in fine condition. The car starts and drives perfectly with the auto box changing as and when it should with no thumbs or noises.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

The BBS wheels are in good nick however the fronts do have some light curbing. The brakes work well and passed the recent MOT with no problems. Whilst not being new there is plenty of tread left on the Michelin TRXs.

History File

The original owners manual and service book is present and stamped by BMW and various independent garages. There is a full documented history of invoices detailing all work carried out to the car from new. All the MOTs are present from new up to the current mileage of 75,951.
