BMW M635 CSi | £13,995
Mileage: 72,300Model History
The E24 6 series was produced from 1976-1989 and was the replacement for the CS and CSL E9 coupes. Like the E9 coupes the early bodies of the 6 were manufactured by Karmann until production was moved in house by BMW. It was the proven E12 5 series that provided the chassis and much of the mechanicals for the E24. Dubbed the 'Bavarian Ferrari' the 6 series was a high end two door luxury sports coupe.
The original 630CS was carbureted and had a 4 speed gearbox. 1979 saw the end of the non-injection fuel systems and the introduction of computer fuel injection. The 635CSI was not produced till 1978, a couple of years after the introduction of the E24 chassis, the 3.5 engine was then improved on again in 1982 when the model received an improved interior and slight exterior modifications.
The mighty M635 CSi was introduced in 1983 and featured a modified version of the M88/1 engine found in the BMW M1. This made it the second fastest BMW ever produced behind the M1, a title it still holds today due to the electronic limiters now in place on modern BMWs. Not only was the M635 incredibly quick but it launched BMW into the same market place as Porsche and Ferrari, combining power, style and presence into one exclusive package. The car featured a sports ZF gearbox (no auto option available), a limited slip differential, gas filled dampers and larger vented discs with 4 pot calipers on the front.
Just 524 RHD M635 CSis were produced between 1985 and 1989.
Equipment
Bolted X spoke alloys, electric tilt and slide sunroof, headlamp wash and wipe, air conditioning, radio preparation (now fitted with Alpine CD player).
Exterior
This is a stunning looking M635 CSi with gleaming Schwarz black paint and immaculate sparkling chrome work. Looking down the sides of the car there is not a single scratch or dent and there is no evidence of rust or poorly repaired body panels. The car has spent 2 days with our detailer and looks stunning for it.
Interior
The black leather is in excellent condition, the leather is still very soft and there is no sagging or wear to the bolsters. All electrics work as they should including the trip computer. The carpets are unmarked and protected with a brand new set of tailored mats. The standard tape player has been upgraded with an Alpine CD player.
Engine & Transmission
The car has been fully inspected by Marc McLennan at MJF Engineering and given a clean bill of health after having the viscous fan replaced and a full service. The exhaust note is quiet at tick over but generates a wonderful howl under load. The 5 speed manual gearbox is tight and precise allowing for a quick gear change.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
The car is fitted with the standard 15" alloys all of which are in excellent condition; they are shod in the correct Michelin TRX tyres. The back tyres are nearly new and the fronts still have tread above the legal limit but will need replacing in the next few thousand miles. The brakes are powerful and pull the car up quickly in a straight line, the front disks and pads where replaced in April of this year. The front steering arms have also been replaced very recently.
History File
The car has a comprehensive service history covering it for the last 13 years. The original service book was lost but has been replaced with a genuine BMW duplicate that has been stamped by the servicing dealer ‘HR Owen Holland Park' in London, there is also a computer printout verifying all the dates and mileage each time the car was taken into the dealer from 1995 - 2004. Since then it has been serviced by BMW specialists including an Inspection 2 service by MJF Engineering, these are also stamped in the book and backed up with receipts detailing the work carried out. The car has just been freshly serviced with new coolant, oil, filters and plugs.
