Mercedes 500 SEL | £3,495
Mileage: 105,400Model History
The Mercedes W126 was the second generation of their luxury flagship model to bear the name of the S-class or 'sonderklasse' translated as the 'Special class'. The model had a production period of 12 years stretching from 1979 to 1991, the longest run of any of the S-class since it's introduction in the 1950s.
Following the oil crisis in the 1970s Mercedes made fuel efficiency a top priority for it's engines. It wanted to make sure that the S-class retained its name as the best selling luxury sedan so also set about by improving the ride and handling of the car. It was however the safety, comfort and technological features that set the S-class apart in its day. Airbags, seat belt pretensioners, traction control, abs and crumple zones were all advancements in their day that combined with the comfort features, courtesy lights, climate control, duel stage heated front sets and courtesy lights on the bottom of the doors that set the W126 apart from other luxury sedans.
Equipment
ABS, PAS, Airbags, Traction control, Duel stage heated seats, Electric seats, Reading lights, Electric sunroof, Electric mirrors, Power adjusted steering column, Rear foot rests, Climate control, Cruise control, courtesy lights, Exterior temperature sensor.
Exterior
The paintwork appears to be very original, and still has a deep shine. On closer inspection there are a few age related chips and scratches, all of which could be easily rectified if the new owner desired. There is no evidence of any accident damage.
Interior
The interior is in immaculate condition and the build quality is second to none. When cruising on the motorway it is almost silent inside and I think you would struggle to find a more comfortable way to travel. Being the long wheel base there is plenty of leg room for even the tallest passengers. Everything works as it should and it still has a set of original Mercedes over mats to protect the carpet.
Engine & Transmission
The engine has been very well maintained over the years and has just been serviced so no mechanical issues to report. The 4 speed automatic gearbox goes smoothly and effortlessly through the gears.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
This car has the steel wheels with Mercedes hub caps to provide the smoothest ride. All the tyres are above the legal limit but the fronts will need replacing soon.
History File
The car had its pre-delivery inspection done on the 27/07/1991 and was then registered on the 01/08/1991 and supplied to its first owner by Bradshaw Webb in Chelsea. The original bill of sale is included in the history file stating the sale price of £43,700. For the first 5 years it was serviced by a Mercedes dealer with 8 stamps in the book. There are then 2 stamps from Andrews Garage in London and then 8 stamps from the Mercedes Specialists ‘J S Specialists' who did the last service at 99,410. We have just carried out a full service on the car with genuine Mercedes parts including fluids, filters and spark plugs.
