Model History

The XK-S was marketed as a luxury GT car and produced by Jaguar between 1975 to 1996. In 1991 the model was re-engineered and renamed, simply XJS. At this time the changes included redesigned rear side windows, as well as a new 4.0 litre version of the AJ6 engine. In 1992, a 4.0-litre convertible model was also added to the range. The car also benefited from a revised braking system (the rear brakes were now fitted with outboard rear disc brakes, instead of the more complicated inboard items on previous models).

In 1994, substantial changes were made to the 4.0-litre AJ6 engine, which became the 4.0-litre AJ16 with coil-on-plug ignition. In 1995, the final specification changes were made, these cars were referred to as the 'Celebration model' to celebrate 20 years of XJS production. These special editions featured unique Aerosport wheels, Jaguar embossed seats and a wooden steering wheel.

The last XJS rolled off the production line on 4 April 1996.

Equipment

Air conditioning, Original cassette radio, Electrically adjustable seats, Central locking, Cruise control, Electric mirrors, Heated rear windscreen, Electric windows, Interior reading lights, Electric aerial.

Exterior

This XJS Celebration model is presented in the stunning Metallic Carnival Red paintwork. Walking around the car, the paintwork is in notably fine condition with very few stone chips to report and still boasting a beautifully deep shine with a sharp metallic flake. All the panels still line up perfectly and remain free from any corrosion and the chrome trim, to be found on the bumpers, window surrounds and mirrors is in excellent condition with no pitting or unsightly dents.

The elegant gold pin-stripes run the length of the cars sleek bodywork and remain complete on both sides.

Interior

Opening the door on the XJS, the interior is awash with beautiful pale cream leather, extending to the centre console a door cards. The driver's seat is in fine fettle, showing minimal wear to commonly worn areas such as the bolsters and seat base. Both the passenger and rear seats appear in 'as new' condition with wonderfully soft, clean leather upholstery. Being the celebration model the seats backs are tastefully embossed with the Jaguar logo. The pale wood trim that can be found adorn the centre console and dashboard is in excellent condition, with no cracks or sun damage to be found whatsoever. All of the interior electrics work exactly as they should and the switchgear feels solid to operate. The tan coloured carpets remain clean and mark free throughout the car, with the correct cream piped over-mats still in place.

Engine & Transmission

Beneath the long, low bonnet, the XJS is equipped with a 6-cylinder, 4.0 litre engine. At the first turn of the key the engine fires into life and idles correctly up to temperature. The Mechanics of the XJS have always been maintained to a high standard throughout its life and are in full working order.

The 4-speed automatic gearbox feels silky smooth, pulling through the gears with ease and handling the engines power perfectly.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

The XJS sits on a set of 16" Jaguar alloy wheels. Having been refurbished, they are all in excellent unmarked condition with all Jaguar centre caps present and correct. The wheels are shod in a matching set of Michelin Primacy 3 tyres, all of which have a plentiful 6mm of tread remaining.

The brakes feel strong and confident, pulling the car to a standstill quickly in a straight line. The last brake fluid flush was carried out at 34k miles.

History File

The Jaguar XJS 'Celebration' edition was first registered in February 1996. The V5 document states 4 owners in that time, the previous having owned the car for the majority of its life since 1998.

The history file shows plenty of service invoices and MOT certificates kept over the years, as well as the original XJS sales brochure and sales invoice when the second owner purchased the car in 1998 with just 7k miles on the clock.

The last service was carried out by Guy Salmon Jaguar in April 2014 at 35k miles.
