Model History

The BMW 1 Series was unveiled in Autumn 2004. The model was conceived as an entry level into the BMW range, as the 3 Series gradually moved up-market in spec and performance. The 1 series shares many structural, chassis, powertrain, hardware and electronic elements with the larger E90 3-Series. Initially launched as a five-door hatchback, in 2007 the 1 Series line-up grew with the introduction of a three-door hatchback, coupe and convertible body styles.

The 1 Series E82 Coupe was first unveiled at the International Automobile Exhibition in 2007, and went on sale on November 24, 2007.

The 135i was equipped with a six-cylinder bi-turbo petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual or optional six-speed steptronic automatic transmission. According to BMW the 135i Coupe accelerates from 0 - 62 mph in 5.3 seconds, however Car and Driver magazine recorded 4.7 seconds for 0 - 60 mph and a quarter mile time of 13.3 seconds at 106 mph. Top speed is electronically limited to 155.3 mph. Fuel efficiency was also increased to 36.9 mpg, an improvement of 18% compared to the earlier models. The differential fitted to the 135i is the first in the world to use double-helical ball bearings. These bearings operate at a lower operating temperature (which can be reached more quickly), due to the reduction of fluid required in the differential.

Initially journalists were not impressed and raised aesthetic complaints about the early 1-series models. However, critical response changed dramatically in recent years since the introduction of the Coupe, that has been described as 'returning BMW to its roots'. Since then many critics and enthusiasts have given the 135i high praise indeed, suggesting that it is the successor of the original E30 M3.

Jeremy Clarkson awarded the 2008 model five stars, and had the following to say: 'The 135 coupe is the best car BMW makes.

Equipment

Double spoke M alloy wheels, Multi-function steering wheel, Alarm system, M sports package, Sunroof, Heated electric seats, Sun protection glazing, Headlight washer system, Parking distance control, Rain sensors, Xenon lights, Automatic air conditioning, Hi-fi loudspeaker system, electric windows, Sports seats.

Exterior

The Sedona red metallic paintwork is the perfect colour to present this M135. The paintwork is in excellent condition with a beautiful glassy shine and only a few minor stone chips to be found to the front of the car. A lovely contrasting option, the individual high-gloss satin chrome trim remains unmarked with no lacquer issues to be found. All the lights remain free from cracks or moisture. This example has been de-badged from the factory for that classic Q-car appearance.

Interior

The heated sports seats are upholstered in black Boston leather. The leather is in excellent condition throughout the car with the exception of some light wear to the drivers bolster. The beautiful grey grain poplar wood trim is laced around the cockpit and shows no sign of damage or fading. The car is spec'd with individual anthracite roof lining, velour over-mats and the M leather steering wheel which feels chunky and robust in hand. All of the switchgear feels very well put together and operates exactly as it should.

Engine & Transmission

The twin turbo-charged BMW N54 engine provides sensational performance on the road and with a fully documented service history the engine is in top mechanical condition. The last service was an oil service carried out by BMW specialists Millstream at 63k miles in May 2013. The 6 speed manual gearbox is a joy to operate at any speed, handling the engines power perfectly.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

Spec'd with the M sport package, this example comes with the 18" double spoke M alloy wheels. The alloys sit perfectly, filling the arches and giving the car an aggressive stance. All of the wheels are in excellent unmarked condition with no kerb marks or scuffs to be found. They are shod in a matching set of Pirelli P Zero tyres that all have plenty of tread remaining.
