Model History

First introduced in October 2000 the E46 M3 featured an all new 3.2L M-tuned engine. The engine had the highest specific naturally aspirated output ever made by BMW at the time producing 343bhp and 365 NM. Praised by press, the S54 engine redlines at a high 8000 rpm and breaths its oxygen through 6 independent throttle bodies electronically operated resulting in immediate responsive from the high revving power unit.

Available as a coupe or convertible the E46 was offered with a 6 speed manual Getrag gearbox or an optional SMG drivelogic gearbox (a standard 6 speed gearbox with an electro hydraulically actuated clutch pedal).

 

This model is a post 2003 facelift version, benefiting from LED rear lights and the SMG II gearbox amongst other minor cosmetic improvements.

Exterior

This beautiful, low mileage coupe is finished in Silver Grey Metallic, arguably one of the best colours the E46 came in. The paintwork is clean and presentable and appears deeply glossy laid over the wide arches and strong muscular body of the M3. There are a couple of very slight stone chips to the lower part of the front bumper that show the car has had any use. All of the external trim pieces are in good condition and in keeping with the minimal mileage.

Interior

The interior of this M3 is finished in Black Nappa Leather that is a testament to the low mileage of the car. Almost unmarked, the front seats still have a nice matte finish and the back seats appear as though they have never even been used. Similarly the rest of the interior is very clean with only minor marks to the SMG gear lever and paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

Engine & Transmission

The S54 is an iconic 6 cylinder power plant revving to 8000 rpm and having an intoxicating ‘rasp' in the higher revs. This example has been treated well, having had the all important running in service at 1297 miles and regular oil changes after that at less than 8000 mile intervals, the last of which was the Inspection 1 performed at 16,596 miles in mid 2011.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

The E46 M3 was offered with either 18 inch wheels or 19 inch wheels and this car is fitted with the 19's which look fantastic and fill the wheel arches nicely to set off the aggressive stance of the car. They are all original, uncurbed and are wrapped in Michelin tyres with plenty of tread left.

 

History File

The history file is relatively small but this is only because of the low mileage. The service book was stamped by BMW main dealers on every occasion with receipts included for maintenance and the fitting of the tracker. The car has all the books as well as both keys and the original purchase invoice.
