Peugeot 106 GTi | £4,995
Mileage: 27,827Model History
The Peugeot 106 was first introduced on the 12th of September 1991. It was the smaller, modern replacement to the hugely successful Peugeot 205. It was directly aimed as a rival to the popular Renault Clio which had already been in production for a year by the time the 106 hit the road. The 106 was originally offered as a three-door hatchback, using 1.0 and 1.1 carburettor engines as well as a more punchy 1.4 litre fuel injected engine. Introduced in 1995, the 1.6 litre injection engine made its debut in the sporty XSi. Up until 1996 these early cars were known as the 'Phase 1' models.
The Peugeot 106 received a facelift in early 1996 which gave the car a sleek, modern look which still looks surprisingly fresh even today. Among various changes, all of the engines received fuel injection and equipment levels were improved with options such as leather seats, airbags, power steering, electric windows and mirrors and alloy wheels. These later cars were referred to as the 'Phase 2' models.
With the previous success of the XSi, Peugeot decided to begin production on an all new GTI model in 1997. This came with a 1.6 16v fuel injected engine that produced 120 bhp and certainly carried essential hot hatch credentials. The GTI came with leather seats, although this was optional on the early models, a body kit which included side skirts, redesigned front and rear bumpers, larger wheel arches, disc brakes all round with 14" Raptor alloy wheels and subtle GTI badging. The 106 GTI become famed for its nimble steering and chassis feel over the years thanks to among others, Touring Car driver Tim Harvey, rally legend Richard Burns and Top gears Jeremy Clarkson, all thoroughly praising the car and even going as far as claiming it to be the best handling car in the world at the time.
Over the years the 106 has earned a reputation for being one of the most corrosion resistant cars, with many earlier models still remaining rust free. After 13 years in production, the last Peugeot 106 rolled off the production line in early 2004 being one of the longest running production cars in Europe.

Exterior
The Platinum silver paintwork on this perfectly original 106 GTi is as it left the factory, it retains a fantastic sparkle and glossy finish and remains scratch and car park dink free, there are also very few, if any stone chips to the front of the car. The car appears never to have had any paintwork in its life and all of the trim and black molding remain in excellent condition.
Interior
The interior is finished in half black leather with alcantara inserts that boosts the interior feel of this hot hatch making it feel slightly more refined with the addition of electric mirrors, windows and a digital dash readout. The interior is spotless and shows no wear with the leather steering wheel retaining its deep texture. The original factory fitted stereo CD player is still present and the car comes with two keys and 2 locking wheel nut keys.
Engine & Transmission
Serviced almost yearly despite the minimal mileage, the mechanicals of this 106 GTi are spot on. The engine fires into life and the gearbox remains tight and precise. The car had its important cambelt service carried out last year. The camcover is showing some signs of its age and has slightly discouloured over time, with a bit more elbow grease we're going to see if there is anything we can do with it otherwise a new camcover can be ordered from Peugeot to match the pristine condition of the rest of the car.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
The 14 inch Raptor alloy wheels remain in their original factory finish, they are in excellent condition with only one alloy showing some very light scuff marks. The tyres and brakes all have plenty of tread and meat left on both disc and pad.
