Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II | £23,495
Mileage: 60,912Model History
The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was proudly built in Great Britain in various forms from 1965 to 1980. Featuring a monocoque chassis it was the first Rolls to use the latest advances in Automotive innovation. While smaller than its predecessor The Silver Cloud it managed to offer increased passenger and luggage space thanks to the latest chassis construction.
To match the modern looks and build technique the Silver Shadow also featured disc brakes rather than drums and independent rear suspension coupled to a high pressure hydraulic system with self levelling suspension. This setup resulted in the exquisite ride quality it displays on the road today.
The Silver Shadow II was introduced in 1977 and was built for a further 3 years. With this introduction came a larger 6750cc V8 up from 6230cc, rack and pinion steering and modifications to the front suspension improving handling.
Equipment
Cruise control, Electric windows, Electric seats, Air conditioning, Power steering, Sheep skin rugs, Rear foot rests, Vanity mirrors, Front and rear headrests, Outside temperature gauge, VDO Quartz clock, CD disk changer
Exterior
This Shadow II is finished in deep metallic Moorland Green with a gold coach line down each side and around the wheel trims which makes for a fantastic combination with the Parchment leather. The car has always been kept garaged so none of the plastic trim has been discoloured in the sun and all of the chrome is undamaged and sparkling. The paintwork is in fantastic condition and has a beautiful deep glossy shine.
Interior
When you open the door there is a wonderful smell of leather and wood. The leather is still soft and supple and the seats are incredibly comfortable. Everything feels incredibly well put together and you can really appreciate the huge number of man hours that went into building these cars. All the instruments work as they should and with the windows up you can hardly hear the engine running over the ticking of the clock! All the carpets are in great condition and the car still has its deep pile sheep skin rugs and foot rests for the back seat passengers. A CD disc changer has been fitted in the boot with a controller on the dash, no holes have been drilled so this could easily be removed.
Engine & Transmission
This Rolls Royce has never had any expense spared and has been fastidiously serviced at 'Jack Barclay Services' and a couple of other well known Rolls Royce specialists. The engine fires on the first turn of the key and instantly settles into a quiet purr. At 58,905 miles it had the larger 12,000 mile service that included changing the gearbox and diff oil. since then it has had a further two services with oil and plug changes despite only covering a further 1,000 miles.
The automatic gearbox engages drive as it should and seamlessly goes up through the gears, you can hardly feel it changing.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
The car is fitted with its original 15" steel wheels with chrome hub caps, all of which are in excellent condition. The tyres have minimal wear and are all matching Avon Radial 235/70R15. The hydraulic system that controls the brakes and suspension was overhauled last year with replacement brake pipes and two new Accumulator Sphere's.
History File
Being one of the last Silver Shadow II this Rolls Royce was registered in August 1980. It had 2 owners in the first 3 years of its life before it was purchased by Mr David Rees in 1983 (the same chap who owned our 911 Turbo) who passed away in 2009.
The car has one of the largest history files we have ever seen, Mr Rees has kept every receipt detailing all the work that has been carried out to the car. Throughout most of its life it has been looked after by the well known Rolls Royce service engineers 'Jack Barclay Service' in Battersea London. Mr Rees has spent ten's of thousands with them keeping the car in perfect running condition.
The car has had less use over the last 10 years but has still been maintained to the highest standard. There was a major service in 2004, 2008 and in December 2010 the car had a service and a full overhaul of all the hydraulics for the brakes and suspension. Recently a new battery has been fitted and the Air-con has been serviced and re-gassed.
There really has been no expense spared keeping this Rolls in top condition and it currently resides in the hands of a careful car collector.
