Model History

The E24 6 series was produced from 1976-1989 and was the replacement for the CS and CSL E9 coupes. Like the E9 coupes the early bodies of the 6 were manufactured by Karmann until production was moved in house by BMW. It was the proven E12 5 series that provided the chassis and much of the mechanicals for the E24. Dubbed the 'Bavarian Ferrari' the 6 series was a high end two door luxury sports coupe.

The original 630CS was carbureted and had a 4 speed gearbox. 1979 saw the end of the non-injection fuel systems and the introduction of computer fuel injection. The 635CSI was not produced till 1978, a couple of years after the introduction of the E24 chassis, the 3.5 engine was then improved on again in 1982 when the model received an improved interior and slight exterior modifications.

Equipment

Factory fitted Pioneer radio cassette, Electric aerial, 'Bottle Top' Alloy wheels, Power steering, Electric mirrors, Electric windows, Multi function computer, Heated rear windscreen, Headlight wash wipe, Rear spoiler

Exterior

This early 635 CSi is finished in a period Opal Green which looks great against the chrome trim. The paint work is in good order and it still wears its original stripes down the side and around the front skirt. All the of the chrome is undamaged and all the plastic and rubber trim is in very good order for the cars age.

Interior

This 635 has only covered 43k in the last 30 years so the interior has aged well. The leather still feels soft to the touch and shows no wear to the front bolsters, the back seats looks like they have never been sat in. Much of the trim remains undamaged and everything works as it should.

Engine & Transmission

As you would expect with such a low mileage example the car is in fine mechanical condition, it had a full service in October last year which included changing the diff oil and auto fluid. The engine provides plenty of smooth effortless acceleration and the auto box glides between the gears.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

This E24 left the factory with fitted 'Bottle top' alloys that have recently been refurbished to the highest standards, they are shod in a matching set of TRX tyres. The brakes are in excellent working condition and the car benefited from a new set of pads front and rear last year.

History File

This 635 CSi was first registered by the supplying BMW dealer in October 1982. It was purchased from the dealer by a Mr Eliot who then kept the car for 26 years before passing it to his son in 2008, during his ownership it was transferred into his company name for tax reasons in the late 80's. There is a letter in the history file confirming the ownership details and confirming the low mileage.

The history file contains some old service receipts and 11 MOT certificates to further verify the low mileage. The last service was done in October of last year and the receipt is in the file detailing all the work that was carried out.

The original service book has been lost but an original replacement book comes with the car.
