Model History

First unveiled at the 1997 Frankfurt motor show the M coupe is BMWs M-developed version of the Z3 featuring one of three 24 valve six cylinder engines originally developed by BMW M for the E36 and E46 M3s.

 

Developed under the leadership of engineer Burkhard Goschel with the specific goal of increasing torsional and structural rigidity to the Z3 chassis the development team had a hard time convincing the Directors to approve the model for production. It was give the go ahead under the condition that the project remain cost effective to produce and as such the M coupe shares many of its body panels and interior trim with the convertible.

 

BMW claim the M coupe has a static structural stiffness of 16,400 newton meters, 2.6 times stiffer than the convertible and the highest of any other model BMW has ever produced. Combine this superb chassis with the BMW M developed suspension, straight 6 engine and no driver aids it provides the enthusiast with a thrilling drive!

Exterior

This M coupe is finished in Titan silver which in our opinion is the best combination with the black nappa leather. The paintwork is unmarked and 100% original with only a couple of light stone chips to the front. None of the external trim shows any age related wear. It really does look as good as the day it rolled out of the factory.

Interior

The interior is perfect, there is no wear to any of the seat and none of the trim has been damaged. Everything works as it should including the heated electric seats and air conditioning. In the pictures the car has an upgraded CD player but will be provided with the original BMW stereo.

Engine & Transmission

This M coupe has only done 34k and comes with a full BMW and specialist service history so as you would expect it is in excellent mechanical condition. The last service was done in October last year which included having the Vanos rebuilt with new seals. The gearbox is tight and precise and the car pulls very well through the gears.

 

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

The alloys are all in perfect condition without a single scratch or curb mark, the tyres are a matching set of Yokohama's all round. The front discs and pads have just been replaced and the car stops quickly in a straight line. 

History File

This M Coupe was first registered in July 1999 and had its running in service done later that year. The first couple of services were done at the supplying main dealer and since then it has been looked after by a well known BMW specialist. All the stamps are in the book and there is a history file containing service receipts and the original bill of sale. All the MOT certificates and tax disks have also been kept to further verify the low mileage.

 

The BMW document holder is also still with the car containing all the owners manuals and the original sales brochure. The car has only had two owners from new.
