BMW 325i Convertible | £7,495
Mileage: 63,479Model History
Brought to the market as an entry level luxury car the E30 chassis spanned 12 years of production. Replacing the E21 chassis in 1982 and overlapping its successor the E36 introduced in 1990 by 4 years.
Early models featured the 4 pot M10 and inline 6 M20 engines used in the E21. The major update for the E30 took place in 1987 where the M20 engine was fitted with Bosch Motronic injection and the M10 engine replaced with the M40 engine again utilising motronic. The chrome bumpers were also replaced with black or coloured ones in late 89 and the rear light made slightly bigger during this minor face lift. E30s are now referred to as pre-facelift (chrome bumpers) and facelift (plastic bumpers). The E30 boasted a spacious cabin and a light curb weight, this was due to the suspension design that utilize Macpherson front struts and rear semi trailing arms. It was also the first 3 series to receive a service light indicator and warning light.
The 325i convertible was the first drop top solely built by BMW, the early E30 being converted by Baur, a coach builder located in Stuttgart credited with early full factory authorization BMW convertibles (1602, 2002 and E21s). To strengthen the chassis and reduce scuttle shake BMW added plates to the front suspension turrets and built in chassis beams down the length of the car helping to reduce flex or twist in the chassis after removing the metal roof.
A firm favourite with BMW enthusiasts the E30s shape is a timeless classic sure to be admired for another 20 years.
Equipment
Alloy wheels, Electric mirrors, Electric windows, CD player, Alpina steering wheel, PAS, Switchable automatic transmission, Full leather interior.
Exterior
This 325i is finished in striking Zinnober red which is a great combination with the black leather and glistening chrome trim. The paintwork is all in excellent condition with no scratches or scuffs and certainly no corrosion. All the chrome is also very good and none of the plastic trim is faded or damaged. The car benefited from a new roof in 2006.
Interior
The wonderful black leather interior is still in excellent condition, none of the bolsters have worn or sagged and the leather remains supple. Everything works as it should and none of the interior trim has been damaged. The car has the manual roof which is very easy to open and shut and less complicated than the automatic version.
Engine & Transmission
This E30 has an excellent service history and has only covered 63,479 miles so as you would expect everything is in fine fettle. The last service was done less than 1,000 miles ago and the cambelt was also changed at the same time. The 325i provides plenty of performance but is also silky smooth with the 4 speed auto box.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
The car is fitted with the standard 14" cross spoke alloys that are all in good order and shod in tyres with plenty of grip. The brakes are in good working order with minimal wear and they pull the car up quickly in a straight line.
History File
This car was first registered in 1989 and was used by BMW as a show car for the 1989 Motor Show, the original build specification is still in the history file showing that the car was prepared for the Motor Show.
The car comes with its original document holder that has all the owners manuals and the service book. The book has been fully stamped with a total of 15 services, the last being a cambelt service less than 1,000 miles ago. There is also a huge file that has all the old MOT certificates and service receipts detailing all the work that has been carried out to the car.
