BMW 3L CSi | £19,995
Mileage: 69,587Model History
The timeless and beautiful shape of the big BMW coupe was first conceived back in 1965 in the 2L coupe by Karmann, it developed into the e9 chassis in 1968 and production continued until the final model rolled of the production line in 1975.
The introduction of the coupe in 1968 signalled BMWs intention to return to the luxury car market sector, an area it had been forced to ignore for years while it struggled to turn around its fortunes during the early 60s. Early cars were all carbureted until the adoption of Bosch fuel injection in the 3L CSi.
The e9 platform proved to be a competitive chassis for racing and helped establish BMWs reputation for sports driving machines. Competing in the European Touring cars and the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft, such was the achievement of the coupe in international racing that it raced from 1969 through to 1978 and even then in 78 still won its fifth European touring car championship against stiff competition.
The 3L CSi utilised Bosch D-jetronic fuel injection to help the engine produce 200bhp at 5500rpm. Just 422 RHD examples of the CSi were produced from 1973-75, 207 of them sporting a manual gearbox making this variant of the coupe rarer than the CSL.

Exterior
This beautiful E9 Coupe has been with the same careful owner for the last 30 years who has always kept her garaged. In 1982 he had some body work carried out by Supreme Coach-works (approved repairers for BMW Park Lane London) that included new front wings and a re-paint to the bottom half of the car. This was done to a very high standard and all the waist moldings and trim was removed and the inner wings where wax-oiled. The quality of the work speaks for itself as after 29 years only a couple of small imperfections have shown through. Due to its pampered life in the garage all the chrome and rubber seals look in near new condition.
Interior
The interior of this E9 feels very light and spacious due to the low window line and lovely beige cloth trim. The cloth has lasted incredibly well considering she is 36 years old and is a real testament to how well the previous owner has cared for the car. Every thing works as it should and there are no squeaks or rattles, the current owner has installed a cassette player (not shown in pictures) and some period speakers.
Engine & Transmission
The car has been maintained since 1981 by the current owner who has been a qualified mechanic since the late 1960's, on top of the usual service work the fuel injection system, master cylinder, water pump, exhaust, and brakes where overhauled in the mid 1990's. The car has had a full health check and service at MJF Engineering since arriving at 4 Star and has now been given a full bill of health.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
This 3.0 Csi looks stunning on its 15" Alpina alloys all of which are unmarked and shod in nearly new Pirelli P6000 tyres. The brake disks and pads have all recently been replaced so are all in good working order pulling the car up quickly in a straight line.
History File
This E9 Coupe was first registered in April 1975 and had 3 owners in the early years until the current owner purchased the car in 1981.
He has been a qualified mechanic since the late 1960's so has carried out the routine maintenance himself which is detailed in a letter left in the history file. In addition he has also kept receipts for parts and all the MOT's dating back to 1981 to verify the low mileage.
