BMW E28 M5 | £Sold
Mileage: 88,383Model History
Launched at the 1985 Amsterdam Motor Show the E28 M5 was the fastest production saloon car of its time.
Lurking under the bonnet and disguised by its subtle looks was the mighty M88 engine, a modified unit from the BMW M1 and the same engine BMW used in the M6s of the era. A product demanded by those looking for the performance of a sports car but the practicality of a saloon car the E28 M5 was the first of many incarnations utilising this combination.
Handbuilt by a special team of BMWs finest technicians early models started life in BMWs original Preussenstrasse location near BMW AG headquarters in Munich until in late 1986 when production was moved to the newly opened BMW Motorsport headquarters in Garching.
A mere 187 RHD M5s were produced from 3/86 to 11/87.
Equipment
De-chroming, Electric sliding sunroof, Rear-seat head restraints, 16" X-spoke alloy wheels, Graduated tinted screen, Rear window blind, Memory electric seats, Air conditioning, Electric mirrors, Rear M-tech spoiler, Rear sunblind, Remote central locking with alarm, Pioneer tape player with 6 disk CD changer.
Exterior
These were the ultimate Q cars in the 80's as the styling is very understated, the only signs of the super car performance being the M badges and the air-dam. This M5 is finished in Alpine white and is in great condition. There are no scratches, dents or rust on the car and all the plastic trim remains in excellent undamaged condition.
Interior
This uber saloon still has its original BMW over mats that have kept the carpets in as new condition. The leather seats are showing minimal wear and all the plastic trim is immaculate. Everything works as it should, the air conditioning blows ice cold and the only addition is a more modern Pioneer tape player with 6 disk CD player in the boot. The toolkit is complete and the boot area looks like new.
Engine & Transmission
These E28 M5's often have high mileage as they where used by business men flying up and down the M1 in the late 80's, so this example has had a very easy life only covering 88k in the last 24 years. Its never had a period without use so its got the perfect combination of traveling a few thousand miles each year and annual servicing. The engine pulls really well and the gearbox feels tight and precise.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
Being a later M5 its fitted with the factory 16" cross spoke alloys all of which are in excellent condition. All the tyres where replaced a few thousand miles ago so only have minimal wear. The disks and pads have also been recently renewed so have plenty of life left in them.
History File
This M5 was first registered in February 1987 and had its running in service three months later. For the first few years the servicing was done by the supplying main dealer in London before being passed over to a BMW Specialist in the early 90's. Since 1996 the car has been in the same care of 'Ashton Motors BMW Specialists', they have serviced the car every year regardless of mileage.
The original service book is fully stamped with all the service and every receipt has been kept detailing the work that has been carried out, the car has been serviced 22 times over its 24 year life. To further verify the low mileage there are 16 old MOT certificates in the history file.
The original document holder is also still present with all the owners manuals and guides.
