Model History

Based on the concept car that appeared in 2001 in Geneva, MCC carried as many as the crazy features across as possible to the road going Smart Crossblade. The limited edition car was based on the Cabrio without the addition of the roof, windscreen or doors! The body was suitably strengthened to ensure torsional rigidity and safety. All of the standard safety features of the Cabrio were carried over and the Crossblade still retains its driver and passenger airbags.

 

Some refer to it as a scooter with 4 wheels, others a cross between a Lotus 340R and a Mini moke, what is surprising is how solid the car feels on the road. There is no wind protection so the use of a helmet is a must. For those that enjoy theme park roller coasters and open air motoring this little runaround is a must.

Exterior

The exterior of this car is in excellent condition. The body panels on this Smart in Jet Black, exclusive to the Crossblade and driver and passenger are sat in a 'safety cell' type structure that is protected with numerous high strength panels with steel safety bars. With a limited amount of body panels, roof and windscreen it creates quite a stir when out and about.

Interior

The seats are fire red with black centres and are made out of water repellent plastic, the instrument cluster is also waterproof and there is a single piece plastic floor mat so you don't need to worry if you get caught out in the rain. Luxuries include a stiched leather steering wheel, leather shift knob and a cup holder for your hot chocolate on a brisk winters day.

 

Engine & Transmission

The Crossblade is equipped with the SUPREX turbo engine as used in the City-coupé and Smart Cabrio with a power output which has been electronically increased to 70bhp. The top speed is electronically limited to 83mph. The gearbox is a semi automatic leaving the driver to leave it in fully automatic mode or shift manually but without a clutch pedal.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

The 3 spoke 16 inch alloy wheels are exclusive for the Crossblade. These are wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport tyres with plenty of tread. The discs and pads are in excellent condition as you would expect from only 1405 kilometers use.

History File

This Crossblade was shipped new over to Canada by MCC to be tested for emissions in the Canadian Market and while there registered to HRH the Queen for an official visit! It did limited mileage while there and sat in the corner of a warehouse until 2010 at which point it was imported into the UK by Hughes International Ltd with 710 miles on the clock. It was then purchased by the current owner in early 2010.
